    EARS TO YOU!

    Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

Ruth Crane’s journey with chemotherapy for stage III breast cancer lead her to start a non profit organization called “Ears to You”.  When she lost her curly locks instead of dwelling on her loss she was inspired to help others through their journey.  What better way than to supply those with glittery gifts of earrings.  After asking friends, family and organizations for their donations, “Ears to You” was born.  With help of social worker Rene Barrat-Gordon, Crane delivers 250-300 pairs of earrings to patients at the Cleveland Clinic each month.

CTG members discovered an article in Ladies Home Journal and adopted it as their change project.  After connecting Crane to MD Anderson in hopes of starting her organization in the Orlando area, CTG ladies, friends, and family got to work collecting nickel free earrings which will be shipped to Ruth to mount on her special card.  Since Ruth started the program she estimates she has given away 2,000 pairs of earrings and now operates at Akron General Hospital.  For more information about Ears to You go to www.earstoyou.org

    A Legacy of Love

    Monday, April 25th, 2011

CTG members and contributors, Autumn Grice and Kathy Truran, made a donation to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler in loving memory of Kathy DeLuca.  The cash donation was used to purchase a brick placed in The Walk of Honor and Memorial Garden at the crisis center where Kathy was cared for.  This living memorial will celebrate Kathy’s life with a heartfelt tribute as well as contribute funding to a great cause.  Each donation helps Hospice of Volusia/Flagler continue their 32-year tradition of caring for any patient who qualifies for their services regardless of ability to pay.  The donations enable Hospice to continue to provide new and expanded programs and services for both patients and their loved ones.  For more information go to www.hovf.org.

The conversation started four years ago with a group of women that wanted to get involved, volunteer, give back and pay itChange Through Giving OK January Change Project forward.  That conversation started Change Through Giving, led to an appearance on Oprah’s Favorite Things Show and has now expanding  to CTG-OK!

Sharon Logan recently relocated to Oklahoma from Orlando.  Her heart and family are still here and those ties led her to keep in touch by reading the Orlando Sentinel online daily.  Low and behold, she read the article about CTG and was so interested she immediately got in touch with us. She put her energy and creativity to work by starting a branch of CTG in Oklahoma, and boy have these gals been busy!  They started by collecting Christmas cards for St. Jude’s Ranch and have kept going since. They collected blankets for the homeless and have given us a great idea for a project that our branch will start in July. Every year, Change Through Giving has a ‘Christmas in July’ party.  SharonChange Through Giving OK March Change Project pic was inspired by the idea after reading the book “Christmas Jars.”  The idea is to save change in a jar and pass it on with the hope that the recipient  will do the same.  This reminded Sharon of CTG’s concept “a little help goes a long way.” We were inspired too and will all be starting our own Christmas jars soon! Keep in touch and find out more about CTG and CTG-OK.  Start the conversation in your neighborhood and who knows where it will lead you.  All you need to do is start something, and magical things can happen!

    Upcoming May Project –

The American Business Women’s Association Chapter Tu’Ya will be teaming up with other Oklahoma statewide chapters to help out the City of Tushka, Oklahoma.  Tushka was in the path of a double vortex tornado the middle of April – 150 homes were destroyed, the only school that held classes from kindergarten to 12th grade was destroyed and multiple businesses were damaged.  This small city of about 400 people has been adopted by CTG – Oklahoma with the help of the state chapters of the American Business Women’s Association.   Household items, everyday items, toys, clothes, etc will be collected and taken to Tushka the weekend before Memorial Day and donated at one of the area churches helping out the residents of Tushka.  This will be our May project!  If not for the help from my association with these business women, CTG-Oklahoma could not have gotten off the ground.  A gracious thank you goes out to these women helping out CTG-Oklahoma become a reality for all of our past and current projects.
