    Sonshine Food Pantry

    Saturday, August 1st, 2009

August is a hard month for parents struggling to provide food.  Children are out of school, and if they were already having a problem meeting their families nutritional needs, now they are responsible for three meals.  That is why CTG members have held a food drive for the last two years in August.  Working for the Sonshine Food Pantry we collected non perishable items to help stock their shelves for local families.  The Sonshine Community Food Pantry serves over 500 families per month with food three days a week at no charge.  It is part of Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida and is located in Seminole County.  It is also part of the Hope Foundation whose mission is to prevent and reduce homelessness in Central Florida by equipping individuals and families to become self-sufficient through Housing, Outreach, Prevention, and Education.  Besides the food pantry it also operates a community thrift store.

Families have been coming to the Sonshine food pantry in increasing numbers. The needs are growing with a population of working poor increasing by the day.  No one is turned away who has a need.  For more information go to www.helpforthehomeless.net or sunshine@helpforthehomeless.net

Working together with these organizations CTG provides hope to local families during these difficult economic times.
